FULL MOON RISING
prompts for the month of may
May is a special month when it comes to the stars and especially when it comes to that giant orb in our night sky: the moon. Rising on May 5 is a full flower moon, which doubles as a penumbral lunar eclipse—whereby the Earth blocks some of the sun's rays from illuminating the moon.
Traditionally, the flower moon represents a time of year when flowers spring forth across the Northern Hemisphere, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. But elsewhere in the world, this full moon also represents new life, growth, and abundance.
This month, the full flower moon is in the passionate sign of Scorpio, which means emotions will run high and only be further amplified by the revealing light of a lunar eclipse. If ever there was a time for shaking things up, this is it.
From some parts of the world, Australia included, the moon will be eclipsed by the Earth as it drifts into our planet’s fuzzy outer shadow. And that very same weekend will also bring with it the magical Eta-Aquarid meteor shower—which can deliver up to 30 shooting stars per hour. A time for seeding hopes and dreams.
The planets will dazzle us throughout the month of May as well, when Venus will appear extra bright and when, on May 17, there will be a total eclipse of Jupiter just before the sun rises. If you gaze east in those pre-dawn moments, you could catch a glimpse of the faint crescent Moon appearing to almost touch Jupiter. An example of pure celestial harmony, perfect for fuelling your personal creative practice.
