Uncage the heart—
BY Annika Hein
Like the deep blue in winter
Her hair whiplashing against the wind
The waves too
Wild.
Their voices both
Bouncing off the back of the horizon.
And time seems endless
Stretched out and
Boundless
Open in full bloom
Birthing into the moments that are
Many.
Mundane or magic
That’s a matter of the light—
The salt on his lashes
The kitchen table catching the dawn
Citrus in the air as I peel
Mandarins.
The daisies still swimming
In dew their petals
Closed up and covered
Waiting
For the light.
So we pick the cosmos
Tall in the grass green
Stretching to the sun
Limbs long like us
Too
Looking over to the ocean
That steep cliff descending
And we meet the morning.
Again and again
And
Again.
Leave it to the coastline
To uncage the heart.
